DESCRIPTION:The Competence Centre for International Economics Research (FIW) kindly inv
ites to participate in the Seminar in International Economics on the topic
Services Trade Opening and Manufacturing Environmental Performance Does tra
de opening in the services sector improve the environmental performance of
manufacturing sectors that intensively use services in their production pro
cess? The main channel through which this can occur is through improved acc
ess to technology that enables lower emissions\, such as when access to hig
h-quality engineering services allows adopting renewable technologies. In a
sample of 49 countries and 17 manufacturing industries between 2014 and 20
18\, we show a positive impact of upstream services trade opening on downst
ream manufacturing emission intensity in production\, and we quantify the c
ounterfactual effect of further liberalization. Authors: Cosimo BEVERELLI\,
