Als Datenbasis werden Exporte aus und Importe nach \u00d6sterreich f\u00fcr 190 Handelspartner und 68 Industriebranchen zwischen 1988 und 2014 verwendet. Empirisch werden im Rahmen eines zweistufigen Gravitationsmodells die Auswirkungen von drei Integrationsschritten auf den extensiven und intensiven Rand des \u00f6sterreichischen Au\u00dfenhandels untersucht: Der EU-Beitritt 1995, welcher die Teilnahme am Binnenmarkt erm\u00f6glicht, die Einf\u00fchrung einer gemeinsamen W\u00e4hrung (ab 1999) und die Erweiterung der EU um ost- und mitteleurop\u00e4ische L\u00e4nder (ab 2004). Die empirischen Ergebnisse legen nahe, dass die EU-Mitgliedschaft, insbesondere die Teilnahme am Binnenmarkt und die Osterweiterung, eine betr\u00e4chtliche Intensivierung des \u00f6sterreichischen Au\u00dfenhandels zur Folge hatten. Exports from and imports to Austria for 190 trading partners and 68 industrial sectors between 1988 and 2014 are used as the data basis. Empirically, a two-stage gravity model is used to examine the effects of three integration steps on the extensive and intensive margins of Austria&#8217;s foreign trade: EU accession in 1995, which enabled participation in the single market, the introduction of a common currency (from 1999), and the enlargement of the EU to include Eastern and Central European countries (from 2004). The empirical results suggest that EU membership, in particular participation in the internal market and eastward enlargement, resulted in a considerable intensification of Austria&#8217;s foreign trade.
