DESCRIPTION:The Competence Centre for International Economics Research (FIW) kindly in
vites to participate in the Seminar in International Economics on the topic

High Tariffs\, High Stakes The Policy Driv
ers behind Firm-Level Adoption of Green Technologies
Description: This seminar investigates the role of trade policy in
firms' adoption of green technologies by analysing firm-level import transa
ction data from 35 emerging markets. It explores how tariffs and non-tariff
measures (NTMs) impact imports of key products in solar photovoltaic\, win
d power\, and electric vehicle value chains. The findings reveal that tarif
fs significantly reduce firms' green technology imports\, particularly affe
cting downstream segments and smaller firms\, while NTMs have more varied e
ffects. The study offers important policy insights\, advocating for open tr
ade policies in emerging markets to facilitate green technology diffusion a
nd support climate goals.
Speaker: Samuel Ros
