 inal conceptualization of the fear of automation and assesses its determina
 nts\, such as the role of technology in the workplace (complementary or sub
 stitutive)\, task routineness\, workers' exposure to technology\, and worke
 rs' positions in the labor market. Using survey data from six Central EU co
 untries—Austria\, Germany\, Czechia\, Hungary\, Poland\, and Slovakia—w
 e found that exposure to technology increases the fear of automation\, simi
 lar to task substitution. Youth\, less educated\, and lower-income individu
 als are more fearful\, while gender shows no significant effect. In conclus
 ion\, we discuss how automation fears impact reskilling motivation in organ
 izational practices. Any dissemination of the results of this event\, refle
 ct only the presenters' view. The European Commission is not responsible fo

 nternational Economic Studies (wiiw) in co-operation with FIW and the Europ
