 ade Talks is a series of events organized by the Research Centre Internatio
 nal Economics (FIW). International economic researchers or high-level polic
 y makers are interviewed on current topics in international economics and e
 conomic policy. Alan Wm. Wolff Alan Wm. Wolff is a distinguished visiting f
 ellow at the Peterson Institute for International Economics. Until joining 
 PIIE\, he was deputy director-general of the World Trade Organization (WTO)
 . His research focuses on developing reforms of the WTO\; responding to the
  role of the United States\, the European Union\, and China in the internat
 ional trading system\; and serving the needs of all countries in using trad
 e to achieve economic prosperity. At the WTO\, Wolff was responsible for di
 visions dealing with accessions\, agriculture\, trade and the environment\,
  standards\, translation\, and information technology support. He is a foun
 der of the Trade for Peace (T4P) Initiative\, which joins the WTO\, the Int
 ernational Financial Institutions and the peace community in their efforts 
 to provide assistance to fragile and conflict-affected countries. He served
  as chair of the WTO's Consultative Framework Mechanism for Cotton Developm
 ent Assistance. During the six months ending on March 1\, 2021\, he was co-
 acting director-general of the WTO. Prior to joining the WTO Secretariat\, 
 Wolff was a leading member of the trade bar pioneering a team approach of c
 ombining economics\, law\, and forensic analysis to address problems in int
 ernational competition. He has lectured on trade policy and related subject
 s at universities around the world. He holds a JD degree from Columbia Univ
 ersity and an AB degree from Harvard College. Harald Oberhofer Harald Oberh
 ofer is a Senior Economist at WIFO\, the Austrian Institute of Economic Res
 earch. He is Professor of Economics at the Vienna University of Economics a
 nd Business. His research interests include International Economics\, empir
 ical Industrial Organisation and Applied Econometrics. Harald Oberhofer stu
 died at the University of Innsbruck and holds a doctorate in Economics and 
 Social Sciences from the University of Innsbruck. Harald Oberhofer regularl
 y serves as a consultant to international organisations such as the OECD an
 d the World Bank\, where he analyses the impact of institutional regulation
 s on firm performance\, also over the business cycle.
